Today mom & me were driving down to Guwahati. It's Republic Day & I wanted to eat lunch at Guwahati but the 1hr+ traffic at Umiam Dam spoilt my plan.
As we passed Jorabat, Maruti Pure Veg Restaurant was open. I remember stopping here more than 25 years ago for tea & snacks. Well today I returned for their Marwari food.
I don't know if any of you reading this are vegetarian or like veg food, but personally I love Indian veg dishes. Back in hostel days, I would sneak in to the veg mess & risk being caught just to eat tasty veg food.
We usually find Punjabi Dhabas on the Shillong - Guwahati highway but I'm very glad I found a Marwari one today. So my Republic Day lunch will be from Rajasthan.
The place seems to have been recently renovated. It even has a nice little Garden Restaurant out in the back.
I took a look at the menu & ordered their Shahi Thali, Green Peas Pulao, Shahi Paneer Pasanda & Gatte ki sabji which is an authentic Rajasthani dish.
The food did take some time to come. I wanted to click more pics but mom just could not wait & started eating. The Thali included mattar paneer, mix veg, veg pulao, a naan & a butter roti. The paneer was super soft & fresh just like the amazing butter roti. The veg pulao was a ghee loaded mix bag but not bad. The mix veg had a bit more gravy & the naan was also ok. I would've appreciated if they also gave papad, salad & chutneys. The Shahi paneer pasanda had paneer with some khoya & cooked in a wonderful & slightly sweet curry. The peas pulao was simple but felt more sorted. This was my 1st time trying gatte ki sabji which were besan dumplings cooked in a tasty & tangy gravy. It was different & nice.
I enjoyed my food but this was just too much for 2 people to eat. I definitely had over ordered.
I won't mind stopping here again to try their other dishes as well.

Amazing restaurant - very tasty food. Surely the best roti I have had in a restaurant - gobi masala was also amazing.
Service was great and everyone was helpful. One of the best meals I had in Meghalaya / Assam
Open to making vegan upon explanation as well
Also super affordable - as restaurants should be

It was okay. Ordered Chola Bhatura and Puri Sabji. Chola was a bit sweet for my liking. Sabji could have used a bit of dhania or something to add that deliciousness. Something was missing. Even the bhatura was looking like a large maida Puri. Anyway... The food is good if you don't like too much spice or if you like veg food.
